Keras is already pretty powerful, able to defeat a dragon and nightmare spirit, so there is not much growth to his powers unlike Corin and gang. The romance parts with Reika and Dawn reminds me of harem stories 4. The choices that Keras makes don't make sense It's a light-hearted read with some geeky references and even though I didn Unlike the Arcane Ascension series, this book didn't quite do it for me.

Mar 02, Sharkie rated it really liked it. Who doesn't like big, brawny dudes and awesome, romance-loving dragons being badass and fighting? I sure as hell love it. Getting a glimpse behind the veil that is Keras is interesting, fun, and a good bit of story telling and world building. I wasn't as in love with the fact Keras is telling this to the SAM crew, but that was easy to overlook and didn't detract from the story.

Overall, very good story. Very enjoyable. View 1 comment. May 23, Jonathan Wilson rated it really liked it. Mar 15, Joel rated it really liked it Shelves: audiobooks. Six Sacred Swords was a relatively quick, straightforward romp, which I'm understanding is a prequel to Rowe's previous series. I enjoyed the book for the most part, though it was a bit more of a popcorn-munch type of rapid ride than I expected. The novel follows Keras, a semi-magical knight-type hero who possesses a magical sword, but is on a mission to recover the six sacred swords of Kaldwyn.

He meets and befriends a dragon and another sentient sword along the way, engaging in a lot of light-hearted banter as the characters get to know each other, and work their way through their challenges. Either way, this was a fun, if imperfect novel. It's a page-turner, and is clearly designed to be, but also lacks a bit of substance I was looking for. The dialogue was fun, but could have been better.

As a whole, I'd say I felt this was a 3. I liked this book, a side series for Arcane Ascension. This book starts to tell the stories of the 6 magical swords in the world of AA. This book reminds me a bit of an upcoming game called Boyfriend Dungeon. In that game, you take weapons on "dates" by using them through dungeons that are basically malls with enemies. In this story, there was a sentient weapon that seemed to enjoy flirting with the main character Might be my favorite Andrew Rowe book yet.

Dec 30, Jack rated it liked it. Would have enjoyed a lot more if there wasn't so much "banter", took me out of the moment far too often. Aug 03, T. Preston rated it really liked it. This was my first Andrew Rowe book. I quite enjoyed it.

The characters were cute, the banter was fun, and the world was interesting. I can tell already that he is making a lot of references to his other works. I like that sort of thing. It makes the whole fictional universe feel connected. Executive Summary: I didn't enjoy this nearly as his arcane ascension books. I probably won't continue on unless I catch a deal on the sequel. Audiobook: I like Nick Podehl as a narrator, but he's been hired to read so several books I've found disappointing including this one that I'm a bit apprehensive when I see he's the narrator now.

That's not his fault though. He does a good job, but I kind of have trouble separating his voice from some of those past books mostly LitRPG stuff I decided to Executive Summary: I didn't enjoy this nearly as his arcane ascension books. Full Review I didn't initially realize this series tied into the Arcane Ascension books, so I was a bit surprised when Corin shows up albeit briefly at the start of this one. It gets a lot more into the mechanics of things without making me feel like I'm reading a video game I'd rather be playing. That didn't help here. I didn't find the humor very good. Instead it was kind of distracting. Humor can be hard because it's subjective. I'm not sure if that was what turned me off this book, or if I was just generally uninterested in the story.

Probably a bit of both. On the plus side the book was quick and light. Given it tie in to stuff in Arcane Ascension and my general tendency to try to read all the world building I can, I may give the series another try if I catch a deal on the sequel.

Otherwise I'll just wait for the 3rd Arcane Ascension book to come out. Mar 05, Schuyler rated it liked it. This felt I expected a unique story for this character, but he was written very similar to Corin when he is supposed to be his own character.

There were some fun battle scenes, the addition of a dragon partner and sentient sword was quite amusing. Realistically though, after he died almost a zillion times, you would think he would at least recover before taking on worse odds as each battle is harder and he is weaker yet he somehow wins them all?

Jun 30, Josh Reisinger rated it liked it Shelves: self-published. Not really my taste. There are only three characters the story follows Keras, Reia, and Dawn and all of them are wildly one-dimensional which made the relationships start to get bland and repetitive even halfway through the story.

Not to say the book was outright bad, there was just nothing I found that was special about it. I will say that I think I would have enjoyed it more if it Not really my taste. Aug 03, Dawn rated it did not like it Shelves: magic. There are just a few examples, all the titles within this book are inspired by real-life JRPG that I have enjoyed playing growing up.

I honestly found this book to even more entertaining to read and light-hearted in tone compared to Arcane Ascensions for two main reasons. Plus, the small cast of main characters in this book actually helped to make the book felt more intimate. As per usual, Daniel Kamarudin is my amazing cover artist. You can find him here. Shawn T. King did the graphic design and typography for this one and On the Shoulders of Titans. You can find his page here.

I really like their style. Daniel Kamarudin is my artist! I have only read the Arcane Ascension books will this book make sense? Are there any plans to redo the typesetting for Arcane Ascension 1? Shawn has been doing a fantastic job with these. Not sure. Awww yes, lookin good man.

Would have been neat though to see the 6 sacred swords. Each sword must be earned by a worthy champion, and no single person has ever managed to collect them all.

It takes place in the same universe as the Arcane Ascension novels, but years earlier and with a different protagonist. While the books are interconnected, they can be listened to on their own in any order. For appendices with further details on the magic and characters, please download the supplementary PDF.
